BACOLOD CITY – Police are investigating the killing of a man in Barangay Tangub on Saturday night, suspecting it to be drug-related.

The victim’s identity was withheld at the request of the family for their safety, according to Police Captain Greeky Cayao, head of Police Station 8.

Cayao said the victim was sitting on a motorcycle, possibly waiting for someone around 11 p.m., when an unidentified assailant approached and shot him at close range. The gunman fled on a motorcycle driven by an unidentified accomplice.

The victim sustained head and neck injuries and was declared dead at the scene, Cayao confirmed.

Police recovered four spent shells from an unknown firearm at the scene. During a search of the victim’s body, officers found six sachets of suspected shabu weighing 10 grams, valued at PHP 68,000, inside his pouch.

Cayao stated that they could not yet confirm if the people the victim was supposed to meet that night were involved in the shooting.

The victim had previously been arrested for a drug-related offense in 2018 and was released from jail last year after his case was dismissed.

Police are also investigating whether the victim was listed on the barangay’s drug watchlist.
