BACOLOD City – Grudges could be behind the killing of a man at Hacienda Malihaw II, Barangay Consing, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
Police identified the victim as Rodel Barona, 35, of the said village.
Police Captain Eric Doronilla, town police chief, said Barona was waiting for a truck when he was sighted by the group of the suspect identified as Antonio Martisano, who came from a drinking session.
When the truck arrived, Barona rode the vehicle to work at the sugarcane field.
But Martisano and his three companions tailed Barona, and when they reached the said scene of the incident, the former who was armed with an improvised homemade shotgun allegedly shot the victim, Doronilla said.
Barona suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.
Doronilla said Martisano was arrested later that night in Barangay San Isidro.
Barona and Martisano had previous misunderstandings which were already settled in their barangay three months ago.
“Kada kitaay galing gihapon nila, wala sila gasapakanay, kay basi bala ara gid gihapon ang kainit kag dumot, then that time nakainom ang suspect,” he added.
Doronilla said that Martisano, who is detained at E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, will be charged for murder.
