BACOLOD CITY – A misunderstanding over an illegal power connection led to the death of a 47-year-old man in Purok Kabugwason, Barangay Vista Alegre, yesterday.
Police identified the victim as Ramilo Oliveros.
Police Captain Andy Ofalia, head of Police Station 7, said the victim and the suspect, whose name was withheld by police, engaged in a heated argument when Oliveros confronted his friend about the latter’s alleged violation of the law against electricity pilferage.
This confrontation angered the suspect, prompting him to allegedly shoot Oliveros with an improvised firearm, according to Ofalia.
The suspect then fled, while Oliveros was declared dead at a hospital.
Ofalia said the victim and the suspect knew each other, and this was the first time their argument had led to violence.
Authorities are verifying reports that the suspect has a previous criminal record.
