BACOLOD City – A man was shot dead by an unidentified gunman at Purok Boulevard, Barangay 13 here Friday afternoon.

Killed was Nicko Hosain, 27, of Barangay 16 here.

Police Major Jovil Sedel, head of Police Station 1, said that Hosain met an unidentified man who was riding a white van past 12 p.m. when three gunshots were heard.

Some residents then saw Hosain running away from the van until he reached an alley where he fell due to a lone gunshot wound on the back, the station commander added.

Sedel said Hosain died on the spot. Police recovered from the scene a pin gun and a 15-inch kitchen knife.

Sedel said they have no lead yet on the identity of the person in the van, as they are still investigating if that person was involved in the shooting.

He said they are looking into the victim’s debt and old grudge as possible motives for the gun attack.

But Sedel said that they are also probing if the incident might be drug-related because they received information that the victim allegedly sold alum powder (tawas) disguised as shabu.

He said that the victim had threats, and was charged for robbery in 2017 and physical injuries in 2018.

He said they will also subject Hosain to paraffin test to determine if he used the recovered firearm during the attack against him.
