A 46-year-old man was injured after he was stabbed at his father’s wake in Lambunao, Iloilo.

The incident happened around 1:20 a.m. on Feb. 7, as alias Ben, a resident of Barangay Maribong, Lambunao, was drinking liquor together with his neighbor, 30-year-old Mon.

Major Jogen Suegay, Lambunao police chief, said that Mon and Ben are second cousins.

Relatives who were at the wake claimed that they weren’t aware that the two had already engaged in a heated argument.

“It was a petty argument that only escalated since both of them were already drunk,” Suegay said.

At the height of their verbal tussle, Mon pulled a knife and stabbed Ben in the left portion of his abdomen.

The victim was rushed to Dr. Ricardo S. Provido Memorial Hospital in Calinog town for treatment.

He was later referred to a hospital in Iloilo City.

The suspect, on the other hand, fled after the incident and remains at large, as of this writing.
