A 35-year-old man was arrested shortly after he allegedly stabbed to death his friend late afternoon of Feb. 4 at Arevalo, Iloilo City.

Bryan Aranas, 35, of Zone 13, Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo, Iloilo City allegedly assaulted his friend, Federico Delayre, following a petty argument.

Prior to the knife attack, the two were drinking liquor at Racrap Beach Resort in Barangay Calaparan.

Delayre, 39, also a resident of Zone 13, Barangay Calaparan, and Aranas were allegedly discussing their respective family members when the latter got irked.

From a simple talk, it escalated to a heated argument and ended with the suspect stabbing the victim.

Delayre was hit on the chest twice. He was rushed to Western Visayas Medical Center but was declared dead more than an hour later.

Captain Mavin Laraño, Iloilo City Police Station 6 commander, said there appeared to be no compelling reason for the suspect to kill Delayre since they were known to be good friends.

In fact, Aranas had been a constant visitor at Delayre’s home.

“Daw hinubog lang gid ah,” Laraño said on the motive why Aranas killed his friend.

The suspect is now detained and will be charged with homicide.
