BACOLOD City – A man voluntarily surrendered to the police Monday after he choked to death and buried his stepmother in a riverbank at Sitio Paniquion, Barangay Jerusalem, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental over the weekend.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mansueto, city police chief, said 46-year-old Angelito Sibuyan allegedly killed 62-year-old Andiolina Sibuyan inside their house last Saturday because he allegedly got irritated with her constant scolding.

Sibuyan was reportedly drunk when the incident happened.

“Pirmi siya (suspect) abi kuno gina-akigan sang biktima,” he added.

Mansueto said the suspect dug a pit, where he buried the victim.

He said the suspect chose to remain in police custody out of fear of retaliation.
