BACOLOD City – A kagawad (village council member) survived an attempt on his life Tuesday at Barangay 2, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Mary Rose Pico, city police chief, said that Kagawad Ariel Yating, 55, summoned the suspect identified as 40-year-old Zalde Artesano at the barangay hall yesterday for allegedly threatening the kagawad’s daughter.
When Artesano saw Yating, the former reportedly challenged him to a fight then drew a knife tucked in his waist, Pico said.
Artesano allegedly attempted to stab the victim but Yating evaded the attack.
Yating’s brother pacified them, but Artesano fled.
Pico said an old grudge may have triggered the suspect to attack Yating.
Artesano accused the victim of siding with a man who allegedly killed the suspect’s elder brother.
She said a case of homicide was earlier filed against the suspect who stabbed dead Artesano’s brother.
“Nag dumot lang gid siya (Artesano) kay kagawad bangud amo na iya ginapatihan sa kaso sang iya magulang,” she added.
