BACOLOD City – A man wanted for murder charges was killed after he allegedly resisted police operatives at Purok Sta. Rita, Barangay Dulao, Bago City, Negros Occidental last Friday.
Policemen were supposed to serve an arrest warrant against 51-year-old Emmanuel Sampani when he reportedly shot them, prompting the authorities to retaliate.
The warrant was issued by Judge Alejandro Marquez of Regional Trial Court Branch 79 in Morong, Rizal on August 25, 1998.
According to a report from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here, the shootout happened around 10 p.m. when Sampani alighted from his driven motorcycle and ran towards the sugarcane plantation to seek cover in a mahogany tree after sensing the police operatives.
The operation was led by Camp Crame’s AKG headed by Captain Adrian James Albaytar, in coordination with the Nocppo’s intelligence unit, Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) intelligence unit, and Bago City Police Station.
It was initiated through series of validations and based on the information gathered by authorities from the concerned citizens.
Police recovered from the scene the suspect’s motorcycle, a Colt caliber .45 pistol with a magazine and six live ammunitions; an Armscor caliber .9mm pistol with one magazine and eight live ammunitions; a. 38-caliber revolver with six live ammunitions, a cellular phone, wallet, and a portable radio.
The items are in the custody of the Scene of the Crime Operatives for proper disposition.
Sampani previously worked and resided at Sitio Mabiya, Malaya, Fililia, Rizal, before returning to Bago City.
He was subjected to post-mortem examination and paraffin test.
