Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas took to Facebook over the weekend to praise power distributor MORE Power for the massive repair and upgrading of the city’s power lines.

“Yesterday, along MacArthur Drive, Jaro, I saw more than 10 trucks with booms for employees of MORE Power fixing the wires along the high poles. I have never seen so many people working along the power lines of Iloilo City since I was in public service,” Treñas said.

The ongoing works, which is part of MORE Power’s multi-billion peso upgrading project this year, has led to power interruptions in the past week.

But Treñas said the long-term benefits of the upgrading outweigh the outages.

“Even if we continue to have power interruptions from time to time, let us be patient enough that MORE Power continues to improve our power distribution system as there is still a lot to be done,” he added.

In response, MORE Power President and COO Roel Z. Castro said they are inspired by the mayor’s kind words to the company.

Castro said their repair and upgrading target problematic areas of the distribution system which could lead to more serious and prolonged outages if these are not addressed.

“All the officers and staff of MORE Power join me in thanking Mayor Jerry Treñas for his kind note regarding our current efforts in fixing all the problematic areas under our area of distribution which are often the cause of power interruptions in the city of Iloilo,” Castro said.

He added that the mayor’s words “made us happy all the more as these efforts are being appreciated by no less than the chief executive of our city, or by someone all too familiar with the power situation in this part of the country.”

Castro said their projects are meant to improve the city’s distribution system so it can take on more future developments that could lead to higher demand for electricity.

“We assure all our consumers that what we are experiencing right now are part of an effort to change for the better, and towards the modernization of all our distribution facilities which we have vowed to undertake since Day 1. All we need is your continued understanding as we work together to level up our beloved city in partnership with the city government of Iloilo,” Castro said.
