BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia called on their respective constituencies to strictly observe health protocols to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Both officials issued their respective executive orders extending the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) from July 1 to July 15 upon announcement by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte early Wednesday morning.

Lacson, who issued Executive Order No. 20-28 Tuesday afternoon, said the province has 83 COVID-19 cases.

The governor said that because of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country, there is a need to place the province under MGCQ.

All persons and establishments violating the provisions of EO 20-28 and health and safety protocols issued by the Department of Health, Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases, other agencies, and the provincial government will face appropriate administrative and criminal charges.

In Executive Order No. 48 series of 2020 which extended the MGCQ on Wednesday, Leanordia stated that “the continuity of the MGCQ requires that Bacolodnons shall have to adopt some necessary lifestyle changes because the said deadly disease is still a scourge to the whole world and Bacolodnons.”

He said Bacolodnons will still have to take the necessary health precautions under the MGCQ while it aims to eventually graduate to the “new “normal.”

Bacolod has 51 cases as of this writing.
