BACOLOD City – The body of a five-year-old girl was retrieved by authorities yesterday, three days after she reportedly went missing in a river at Barangay La Granja, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said the victim, whose name was withheld, was found by residents floating near the bamboos in another river at Barangay RSB around 6 a.m.

Guadalupe said the victim’s body was already bloated. She was identified by her elder brother.

The victim went missing over the weekend after she drifted into a strong river current when she was left by her mother in the middle of the river to fetch her two-year-old brother.

They were supposed to cross the river to feed their farm animals when she drowned.
