BACOLOD CITY —The Magayon Hinuptanan Festival 2025 of Moises Padilla town in Negros Occidental kicks off today, Saturday, March 22.
Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia Yulo said the festival highlights the town’s distinction as the livestock capital of the province.
She added that to emphasize this, the Carabao and Horse Racing Event will be held on Monday, March 24.
Yulo said they decided to revive this event after many years.
The term “Hinuptanan” translates to “domesticated animals,” reflecting the community’s deep-rooted connection to livestock farming.
Traditionally, the festival features various events that showcase the town’s rich cultural heritage and agricultural prominence.
Street Dancing Competition: Participants from various barangays wear vibrant costumes representing domesticated animals and perform lively dances that depict the role of livestock in daily life.
Lechon Festival: This event celebrates the town’s reputation for exceptional roasted pig and brings the community together to showcase culinary expertise and livestock abundance.
Agro-Industrial Fair: An exhibition of agricultural products and innovations emphasizes the town’s contribution to the province’s agribusiness sector.
Nilaga-an Village: A recent addition to the festival, this attraction features the local delicacy “nilaga,” a traditional pork or beef stew, offering visitors a taste of Moises Padilla’s culinary heritage.
In 2024, the festival was held from March 15 to 19, marking the return of in-person festivities after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For 2025, the Magayon Hinuptanan Festival runs from March 22 to 25, promising a vibrant celebration of the town’s cultural and agricultural legacy.
These festivities serve as a form of thanksgiving and help strengthen community bonds, preserve traditions, and promote local tourism, reflecting the enduring unity and spirit of the people of Moises Padilla, Yulo said.
