BACOLOD CITY — The people of Moises Padilla in Negros Occidental, including teachers and pupils, paid their last respects to the principal of Guinpan-an Elementary School, who died from a roof fall while preparing for the opening of classes last week.
In a Facebook live video posted last Thursday, some residents, pupils, and teachers were seen waving white flags as the convoy escorting the remains of 60-year-old Reynaldo Mojares passed through the town’s roads.
The municipal government expressed sadness over the passing of Mojares, whom they considered a pillar of the institution.
Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo sent her prayers of comfort to Mojares’ family.
Meanwhile, the school remembered Mojares as not only an outstanding educator but also a true inspiration to all.
“We lost an exceptional leader and colleague whose dedication, kindness, and vision profoundly impacted our school community,” the school said in a statement.
The school noted Mojares’ commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment, which helped countless students thrive and succeed.
“He was always there to offer guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear, making every member of our school feel valued and supported,” the school added.
His achievements and the positive changes he brought about will forever be remembered and cherished, the school said, adding that his legacy will continue to inspire them to strive for excellence and uphold the values he instilled in them.
“As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the incredible life he lived and the many lives he touched,” the school stated.
Mojares passed away in a hospital last Wednesday, three days after he fell from a classroom roof.
He had climbed alone to clean some leaves from the roof on July 28 in preparation for the opening of classes on July 29. When he descended the ladder, he slipped.
He had been in the service for 30 years and had been assigned to Guinpan-an Elementary School for four years. He was supposed to retire in December this year or January next year.
