ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Commission on Elections(Comelec) said it has issued show cause orders to 46 candidates for the October 30, 2023 Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan Eleksyon (BSKE) in Capiz for various alleged violations

Atty. Wil Arceño, Capiz provincial election supervisor, said 7 more candidates from a barangay in the town of Maayon and another 7 from a village here added to the list of recipients of Comelec show cause orders.

Arceño said the 7 candidates from Maayon were accused for a premature campaign after they were caught placing their tarpaulin with their pictures that greeted their constituents “Malipayon nga Paskwa”.

The 7 others from a village here were caught on video campaigning with their constituents.

According to Arceño, the complaints were directly filed with the Comelec provincial office which immediately forwarded to the Regional Office where a summon arrived recently.

Based on the records of the Comelec’s office here, the town of Pilar has the most number of candidates with show cause orders  at 19, followed by Roxas City (10), Maayon (7), and Tapaz and Jamindan (5 each).

Meanwhile, several BSKE candidates have attended a Candidate’s Forum initiated by the Comelec here and other selected towns in Capiz.

The forum aims to educate the candidates regarding the coming elections where representatives from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Department of Interior ang Local Government (DILG) are among the resource speakers.
