More males died compared to females in Guimaras in the first quarter of 2021 with a sex ratio of 140 male per 100 female deaths.
The data is based on the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras.
“From January to March 2021, there were a total of 276 registered deaths 161, of which were males while 115 were female,” Provincial Statistical Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
Male deaths accounted for 58.33% of the provincial count, most of which came from Jordan town with 55 or (34.16%) deaths, followed by Buenavista with 45 (27.17%).
Nueva Valencia accounted for 26 deaths (17.3%) and, San Lorenzo with 26 (16.15%), and Sibunag with 7 (4.35%).
Females accounted for 41.67% in Q1, with Buenavista logging the highest number with 37 (32.17%), Jordan with 31 (26.6%), Nueva Valencia with 26 (22.61%), San Lorenzo with 14 (12.17%), and Sibunag with 7 (6.09%).
Majority of the recorded male deaths in the first quarter were reported in January with 55 (45.34%) followed by March with 55 (34.16%) and February with 33 (20.50%).
On female deaths, February and March recorded the same number at 40 (34.78%), while 35 (30.43%) were documented in January.
“The recorded sex ratio of 140 male per 100 female deaths, registered a gender gap of 16.67% which means that, male death cases are higher by 16.67% than female deaths or around 46 cases more than females,” Losare explained.
Comparing death occurrences from the same quarter a year ago, males still outnumbered females, 170 to 107.
“Death is registered by place of occurrence or where it took place, meaning not all deaths registered in the municipality are local residents,” Losare said.
