ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Tropical depression “Auring” forced the evacuation of 2,553 Capiceños.
Based on data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), most of the evacuation centers provided by the respective local government units in the different towns of Capiz were filled up with evacuees, particularly those in the coastal areas.
A report from the Roxas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) indicated that 958 families composed of 3,061 individuals from 20 barangays were evacuated to the evacuation centers.
According to Melvin Galagate, information officer and head of the Roxas City Communications Group (RCCG), the high number of evacuees in the city was the result of the preemptive evacuation ordered by Mayor Ronnie Dadivas.
They prepared relief goods while the city established soup kitchens in the evacuation centers, according to Galagate.
Governor Esteban Evan Nonoy Contreras, on the other hand, issued an executive order suspending offices of the provincial government on February 22, 2021.
However, vital offices mandated to be in the forefront of providing vital services during and after calamities should continue to hold office with essential functionaries reporting to office, the order added.
Classes and offices in Roxas City both private and public were suspended by the city government because of the typhoon.
The towns of Ivisan, Mambusao and Pilar also suspended classes and work.
