Uswag Ilonggo Partylist, led by Congressman Jojo Ang, hosted the largest orientation for the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program on Sept. 13 at the University of San Agustin Gym.
A total of 6,800 beneficiaries from the districts of Mandurriao, Molo, Arevalo, Jaro, La Paz, and City Proper attended the event, marking a significant step in addressing community needs through the TUPAD program.
The DOLE-TUPAD program provides short-term employment to disadvantaged workers through 10 days of community service, offering financial relief and fostering a sense of pride in earning from their labor.
Beneficiaries are compensated PHP 4,800 for their work, which includes tasks like road clearing and coastal clean-ups.
Ang underscored the importance of TUPAD in offering financial support while empowering workers to contribute to their communities.
“The program not only offers aid but ensures beneficiaries are compensated for their hard work. They take pride in earning from their efforts,” Ang said.
He also assured the public of continued efforts to deliver aid and support throughout Iloilo.
He also promised continued support for the community.
“We are committed to extending more assistance and ensuring that more aid reaches our people. We will keep working to bring further benefits to the community,” he added.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor Raisa Treñas echoed Ang’s sentiments, noting that the program complements the city’s broader health initiatives, particularly its role in dengue prevention efforts.
Iloilo City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Head Gabriel Umadhay explained that each TUPAD beneficiary will receive PHP 4,800 after completing 10 days of community work, such as road cleaning, community gardening, and coastal clean-up.
Beneficiaries will also be provided with uniforms and GSIS group personal insurance.
The TUPAD program, through the effort of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Regional Director Atty. Sixto Rodriguez provides this flagship employment initiative and offers 10-day emergency employment to qualified individuals, providing both immediate labor support and temporary financial relief.
Among those present during the orientation were Councilors Sedfrey Cabaluna, Allan Zaldivar, Johnny Young, Frances Grace Parcon, and Miguel Treñas; Former Councilors Mandrei Malabor, Lyndon Acap, and Jay Treñas; and Iloilo Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.
