More than half of the new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas were in Bacolod City, based on the latest report from the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) on Tuesday.
The region logged 229 new cases, with Bacolod City accounting for 128 cases.
Western Visayas now has 6,382 cumulative cases, including 3,038 active cases.
The latest batch of confirmed COVID-19 cases include 199 local cases, 25 for verification, 3 Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF), and 2 Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APOR).
No new COVID-19 cases among Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI) were reported on Sept. 8.
Iloilo City posted the second highest number of new cases at 28, Iloilo province with 22, Negros Occidental province with 13, Capiz province with 5, Guimaras province with 2, and Antique province with 1 new local case.
New cases whose categories are yet to be verified include 18 in Negros Occidental province, 4 in Aklan, and 3 in Bacolod City.
The ROFs who recently tested positive for COVID-19 are all from Iloilo province, including a 55-year-old male from Miag-ao town (WV Patient No. 6312), and a 33-year-old male (WV Patient No. 6351) and a 40-year-old male (WV Patient No. 6532) who are both from Sta. Barbara town.
Meanwhile, the 2 new APOR cases include a 24-year-old male from Dumangas, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 6300) and a 25-year-old female from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 6363).
Based on symptoms, 147 new cases are asymptomatic, while 44 new cases showed Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), 25 are still for verification, and 13 have Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).
New COVID-19 recoveries reported on Sept. 8 amounted to 217, increasing the total number of recovered cases to 3,250.
Iloilo City reported the most number of recoveries on Sept. 8 with 164 new recoveries, followed by Iloilo province with 23, Bacolod City with 15, Capiz province with 9, Guimaras province with 3, Aklan province with 2, and Antique province with 1 new recovery.
The region also listed 4 new deaths, bringing the total COVID-19 mortalities to 94.
Three of the new deaths were from Bacolod City, including a 55-year-old male who died on Sept. 3 (WV Patient No. 3330), a 56-year-old female who died on Sept. 7 (WV Patient No. 4039), and a 60-year-old female who died Aug. 29 (WV Patient No. 5007).
The remaining one new death is an 85-year-old female from Talisay City, Negros Occidental who died on Sept. 3 (WV Patient No. 85).
A total of 3,723 laboratory results were released by the DOH-WV CHD on Sept. 8 from 7 accredited Sub-National and Molecular Laboratories in Bacolod City, Iloilo City, and Negros Occidental province.
