BACOLOD City – A man died while his companion was wounded after they figured in a road accident at Sitio Malasbalas, Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Monday.

Police identified the fatality as motorcycle driver Marlo Delobio, 25, of the said village.

Wounded was his companion Jake Calais, 23, also of the said barangay.

Police Lieutenant Dennis Melgarejo, deputy police chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said Delobio overtook another motorcycle and allegedly overlapped on the lane of an L-300 van driven by Argie Cordero, 42, of Barangay Taculing here, causing the collision.

Melgarejo said that Delobio was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while Calais is still confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here. Both suffered severe leg injuries, he added.

Melgarejo said the victims, who were not wearing helmets, were on their way home when they figured in the accident.

The L-300 van transporting two medical technologists was supposed to deliver the swab specimen to Valladolid town from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, when the accident occurred.

Melgarejo said the passengers and the driver of the van were unharmed, while the specimen were intact.

Melgarejo said both parties met yesterday for a settlement after Cordero’s employer assured assistance to the victims’ families.

Cordero was released Tuesday afternoon.
