BACOLOD City – A man was wounded after he was shot by unidentified persons on board a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Purok Logdeck, Barangay Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

Police identified the victim as Alex Sugdon Jr., 39, of Barangay Kumaliskis, a caretaker of a zipline in the town.

Police Corporal Aler Cañete, investigator of Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, said the victim was riding a motorcycle on his way to work, along with his female friend, when two perpetrators alighted from a parked SUV and allegedly shot him.

Another perpetrator hiding in the bushes also shot Sugdon while their driver-companion was left inside the car, Cañete said.

“Ang salakyan gabantay na daan sa ila paglabay nila,” he added.

Sugdon suffered five gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital here while his female backrider was unharmed.

Police recovered from the scene six empty shells of .45 caliber ammunition.

Cañete said they have yet to determine the motive while Sugdon said he cannot pinpoint anyone who held grudges against him.

The investigator said that a complaint over land dispute was previously filed against the victim in the barangay level.

“Wala man daw siya kontra. For now under investigation pa,” Cañete said.
