BACOLOD City – Two persons, including a child, were killed in separate road accidents here and in Negros Occidental, hours before Christmas Day.

In Bacolod, a motorcycle rider died after he was run over by a dump truck along Araneta Avenue in Barangay Tangub around 4 a.m. last Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Jessie Celedonio, 29, of Barangay Pahanocoy here.

Captain Melvin Mercado, head of Police Station 8, said the victim was tailing a truck when he overtook the latter.

He tried to return to his lane when he saw a water tank from afar, Mercado said.

But it was too late, as he was run over by the truck.

Mercado said that both parties have reached a settlement.

Later that night, an eight-year-old boy died after he was hit by an ambulance along Matagoy, Rizal Highway, Barangay Rizal, Silay City, around 8 p.m.

Police withheld the name of the minor-victim.

According to the police, the victim allegedly suddenly crossed the road when an ambulance that was carrying a critical patient passed by the area on its way here from Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in the city.

The 42-year-old ambulance driver voluntarily surrendered to the police after transporting his critical patient to another hospital here, according to the police.

The victim passed away in a private hospital here the following day, around 11 a.m.

Police said that both parties have met for an amicable settlement.
