MSME disaster resilience guidebook gets updated with new data, toolkits

The Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), under the Philippine Preparedness Partnership (PhilPrep), re-introduced the micro, small, and medium (MSMEs) Guide to Disaster Resilience with new sets of data and tools to promote awareness on disaster resilience among MSMEs.

First introduced in 2020, the MSME Guidebook was designed to help MSMEs adapt to the impacts of the pandemic through understanding business continuity practices and basic concepts of disaster risk reduction and management.

In its second edition, the guidebook now comes with the most recent local and global data on disaster occurrences and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on MSMEs, helpful mobile applications, and online learning platforms.

It also contains a step-by-step guide on crafting a business continuity plan (BCP), assessment tools to help evaluate disaster readiness, and an updated BCP roadmap and loan and insurance products.

The guidebook also features real-life stories of MSMEs who struggled and succeeded during the pandemic. It showcases solutions to help other MSMEs find the right attitude and mindset to keep their businesses going amidst disasters.

An overview of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan for the year 2020 to 2023 can also be found in this edition.

The 2nd edition of the MSME Guidebook is funded by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and the Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP) PhilPrep—the localized tripartite platform of APP, which is comprised of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Center for Disaster Preparedness, and PDRF.

It is supported by the MSME National Resilience Core Group, composed of the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, OCD, PDRF, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Philippine Exporters Confederation, Employers Confederation of the Philippines, Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management-Philippines, and ADPC.
