Multi-purpose buildings benefit various communities in Aklan

When completed, multi-purpose buildings will benefit various barangays in the province of Aklan.

The buildings are undertaken by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Aklan District Engineering Office (DEO).

Citing a report from District Engineer Alejandro M. Ventilacion, DPWH-6 Regional Director Lea N. Delfinado said the construction of ₱7-million public market in Brgy. Poblacion in Tangalan town is already around 60 percent completed and is expected to be finished in November this year.

The project involves the construction of a 12-stall building with electrical, sanitary/plumbing works, swing and roll-up doors, and concrete pavement.

Delfinado also said DPWH-Aklan DEO has completed the construction of ₱1.9-million, 294-square meter evacuation center (covered gym) in Brgy. Alfonso in Libacao town, which includes the installation of steel trusses and soft metal rib-type long span curve roofing.

The construction of 945-square meter multi-purpose building (covered court) in Brgy. Maloco in Ibajay town is ongoing with the current accomplishment of 65 percent and is expected to be completed in November this year. This ₱14.4-million building includes provision of concrete bleachers, basketball accessories and comfort rooms for male and female.

Another covered court is also being constructed at Brgy. Poblacion in Tangalan town. Costing around ₱29 million, the project involves the construction of 1,515-square meter building.

It also includes the demolition of the existing dilapidated structure, construction of 10 units steel trusses with concrete columns, roofing. The 2-storey structure will serve as a stage with alley connecting the left and right areas, expanded bleachers for a bigger crowd accommodation, large awning-type windows for ventilation, and provision of area for persons with special needs.

A modern, multi-functional façade will also be added to accentuate the town center.

“These facilities will provide our people with a conducive and more comfortable venue for social and community events. This will also serve as place for education, sports and other recreational activities of the people in the community,” Delfinado said.

“More so, these structures will serve as temporary shelter for our people in times of disasters and calamities and other emergency situations.” (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
