A community stage for social and cultural activities has been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office for the residents of Barangay Poblacion in Leon, Iloilo.
Constructed at a cost of ₱2.17 million, the multi-purpose stage provides a vital space for various activities, events, and gatherings in the barangay.
DPWH 6 Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said the structure not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the barangay but also fosters community spirit by offering a venue for cultural performances, social celebrations, public meetings, and other local events.
“The stage is designed to meet the needs of the community, ensuring it is accessible, functional, and sustainable. It features a ramp to accommodate people with special needs as well as the able-bodied,” Oropel said.
“This stage provides a space for cultural expression, promotes social interaction among residents, and serves as a platform for local talent to shine,” he added.
District Engineer Mario G. Soriano highlighted the stage’s role in strengthening the sense of community and building stronger relationships through shared experiences.
“This structure will promote cultural expression and identity, enhance community participation, and foster social cohesion and unity—essential catalysts for development,” Soriano said.
“This barangay stage serves as a platform for various community activities, offering a space where individuals can showcase their talents, share their stories, and engage meaningfully with one another,” he added.
The multi-purpose stage is expected to play a significant role in improving the quality of life in Barangay Poblacion by encouraging civic participation, promoting cultural expression, and fostering social cohesion.
