The marginalized sectors of society do not often have access to services that can accelerate and sustain their development, which the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) is working to change.
The NAPC believes that underprivileged Filipinos should have equitable control and access to social services and facilities such as education, health, and housing to realize their growth potential.
“Quality basic services are essential to poverty reduction and economic development. They will enable our citizens to meet their basic human needs and live decent lives,” said NAPC Secretary Noel K. Felongco.
Because of this, the NAPC has instituted several reforms as part of its multi dimensional anti-poverty approach.
For persons with disability (PWD), the commission initiated and supported disability inclusive and responsive social protection programs. This includes providing accessible transportation for PWDs, lobbying for the Filipino Sign Language Act, and ensuring mandatory PhilHealth coverage PWDs.
It also lobbied for adequate and responsive healthcare programs for senior citizens and addressed the rising cases of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines.
As part of its mandate, the NAPC oversees government interventions that lay down strategies and specific programs to enable disadvantaged Filipinos to sustainably meet their minimum basic needs and benefit more from the country’s socio economic activities.
NAPC is also committed to undertaking policy advocacy and ensuring meaningful and inclusive people’s participation in governance and nationalist development.
