NegOcc guv employees to do more for province

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has urged employees of the provincial government to continue improving their services.

“I encourage you, we should have a collective New Year’s resolution — to improve or to surpass our past record,” the governor told the Capitol personnel during their first meeting for 2019 held at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center on Jan 3, 2019.

Marañon, who wished everyone a prosperous and prayerful New Year, said it is still possible that Negros Occidental can receive more awards on good governance.

“Maybe we can add to the awards we received and we can improve our services for the province. There’s still so much to do, so much to be done,” he added.

“Each one can take an extra mile, work harder. We can achieve something if we all work together,” said the 83-year-old governor, who is on his third and final term. He is no longer seeking an elective post in the May 2019 elections.

Marañon also met with the department and office heads for the target-setting of the provincial government for 2019.

Before 2018 ended, Negros Occidental reclaimed the distinction of being the Best Performing Province of Western Visayas, an award bestowed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government during the 2018 Search for Excellence in Local Governance (Excell) Awards.

Provincial Planning and Development Officer Ma. Lina Sanogal earlier said the award is “a fitting tribute to Governor Marañon’s various accomplishments as he finishes his term in mid-2019.”

During the 2018 Excell Awards, Negros Occidental was also awarded the champion in Excellence in Economic Governance and Excellence in Environmental Governance, and second runner-up in Excellence in Local Legislation. (PNA)
