One of the most exciting players in the UAAP juniors’ division will be staying with the same school in the seniors’ division.
Reyland Torres, a basketball standout from Bago City, Negros Occidental, will be transitioning from the National University Bullpups to the Bulldogs.
With his dominating presence in unit meets, Torres was discovered by Bob Thomas after seeing his extraordinary skills on the court. Thomas then helped him take his talents to Manila.
“Nag try out man ko sang una sa mga teams sa Bacolod pero wala gid ako nadala. May nag bulig sa akon nga si Bob Thomas siya gid ang nag patigayon sa akon sa Manila. Sang una, mga division meet lang gid ya na hampangan ko,” said Torres in an exclusive interview with the Daily Guardian.
It did not take him long to get familiar with NU’s system. He has since become one of their most reliable players, even clinching the 14th rank among the UAAP-NBTC high school players.
During the UAAP Juniors’ Season 82, Torres teamed up with Carl Tamayo, Kevin Quiambao, and Iloilo’s Gerry Abadiano to spearhead a dominating season to emerge as the best high school team.
Torres is currently playing as shooting guard and small forward – but is willing to adjust to whatever the collegiate team needs him to do in order to win.
At the moment, Torres is joining the NU Bulldogs in their online workouts and is keeping in touch with the management for the upcoming UAAP season.
