BACOLOD CITY – A Negrense from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, has achieved another milestone by topping the October 2024 Electronics Technicians Licensure Examination (ECTLE), just six months after leading the April 2024 Electronics Engineering Licensure Examination (ECELE).
Engr. Niele Shem Bañas earned a 93 percent rating in the ECTLE, as announced by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Oct. 29.
The Technological University of the Philippines (TUP)-Visayas, based in Talisay City, previously awarded Bañas a PHP200,000 cash incentive for placing first in the ECELE in April, where he achieved an impressive 91.80 percent rating.
Bañas began his academic journey at Ara-al Elementary School in La Carlota City, continued through Junior High School at Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School, and completed Senior High School at TUP-V. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering. He is the son of Rodel, an electronics engineer, and Joyce, a teacher.
La Carlota City Mayor Rex Jalando-on praised Bañas’s achievements in a Facebook post, highlighting his exceptional talent and dedication as an inspiration for others.
Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares also congratulated Bañas on his outstanding success in the ECTLE.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-6, where Bañas was once a scholar, also commended him for his dedication to excellence.
“We are immensely proud of his achievements. May his inspiring journey motivate our scholars to strive for greatness, not only in exams and competitions but in all their pursuits,” the DOST-6 stated.
TUP-V reported that 52 out of 89 examinees passed the October ECTLE, achieving a 58.43 percent passing rate.
Additionally, 11 of 20 examinees passed the October ECELE, marking a 55 percent passing rate, which exceeds the national passing rate of 45.99 percent.
