THREE Negrense student-athletes will represent the Philippines in the 2019 Arafura Games on April 26 to May 4 in Darwin, Australia.
Franz Gela Romualdo Bintad, May Therese Gula, and Ara Babora Delotavo of Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) were selected by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
Gula of Bacolod City will compete in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters dash, while Silay City native Delotavo will participate in the hurdles event.
Bintad from Escalante City will see action in the discus throw.
The Arafura Games is a unique, inclusive multi-sport event where athletes with a disability compete in the same program as able-bodied athletes. The participants around the world compete in the weeklong games held every two years in the Australian city of Darwin, in the Northern Territory.
Called a “meeting of Sporting Neighbours,” the Arafura Games takes its name from the Arafura Sea, which lies between northern Australia and Southeast Asia. Nations along the Arafura Sea originally formed the basis of the Arafura Games, however in recent years countries from further afield have participated, including United States, England, Brazil and Liechtenstein.
