BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson praised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s emphasis on the agricultural sector, highlighting it as a key point in his State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Lacson, reacting to the SONA on Monday night, expressed his approval of the President’s concern for agriculture, particularly in relation to local palay production. He noted, “As the governor of an agricultural province, it is heartening to hear the President’s genuine concern for the importance of agriculture.”

President Marcos Jr. emphasized the need for stronger technical and financial support, price controls through ceilings, improved irrigation, food security, expanded crop insurance, and land reform advancement.

Lacson commented that the President’s dedication to agriculture and food security, combined with efforts to combat smuggling and enhance disaster response amid climate change, would positively impact Negros Occidental.

The President’s third SONA also addressed significant issues, including reduced electricity costs, expanded PhilHealth benefits, a national learning recovery program, and various measures to support government employees and teachers. Enhanced protection for OFWs and seafarers, the acknowledgment of PPPs for funding big projects, poverty reduction, improved peace and order, and a bloodless war on drugs were all highlighted as welcome developments.

Lacson praised the applause for the President’s stand on the West Philippine Sea and the banning of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs), noting that these responses reflect the public’s sentiments on these critical issues.

“In sum, the President’s third SONA, while acknowledging the challenges faced by the country, was inspirational as it laid out a clear vision for the future and demonstrated a commitment to addressing the nation’s most pressing concerns,” Lacson added.

Rep. Alfredo Marañon III described it as “the best SONA of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” particularly noting the administration’s programs on agriculture, irrigation, and food security.

Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer congratulated the President for focusing on crucial issues like POGOs and the territorial dispute in the West Philippine Sea, commending his attention to the rising cost of rice.

Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya praised the SONA for its coverage of both ongoing and future programs, including improvements to the 4Ps program. He emphasized the President’s political will on the West Philippine Sea and POGO issues, remarking that the President’s statements were well received by all.
