BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution of veterinary facilities to various local government units (LGUs) to enhance animal health management and improve livestock production.
On Wednesday, Lacson turned over nine units of dummy sows for Artificial Insemination (AI) under the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program.
These were distributed to beneficiaries to enhance the operation of Swine AI Centers established by the province in different LGUs.
Additionally, two boars were provided to the cities of San Carlos and Sagay to strengthen AI breeding operations and support backyard swine raisers.
Moreover, 11 grower female pigs were distributed to swine raisers from the Ilimnan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries in Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Toboso, Manapla, and Calatrava.
Lacson said that access to veterinary services will enable LGUs to prevent and treat animal diseases, promote better breeding practices, and ensure healthy and productive livestock.
He added that veterinary facilities also help manage livestock welfare, reduce animal mortality, and improve agricultural product quality for local markets, which in turn boosts farm productivity, enhances farmers’ livelihoods, and ensures food security.
Meanwhile, 10 motorcycle units were provided to the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) to assist in animal health monitoring, disease surveillance, emergency response, and damage assessment under the Provincial Animal Biosecurity Program.
Joining Lacson at the event were Board Members Andrew Montelibano and Manuel Frederick Ko of the 3rd District of Negros Occidental and Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana.
