BACOLOD CITY – Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools in Negros Oriental on Monday due to heavy flooding caused by persistent rains.
In an executive order issued Sunday, Sagarbarria noted that local government units in Siaton, Dauin, and Zamboanguita, among others, had already declared class suspensions in their respective areas.
He said it is imperative to implement localized cancellation of in-person classes as a precautionary measure to mitigate potential risks from the inclement weather.
The order cited an 8 a.m. heavy rainfall warning from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, placing parts of the province under the Yellow Warning Level.
Under this warning, flooding is possible in low-lying areas and near rivers, and residents are urged to remain vigilant.
The executive order takes effect immediately on March 31 until lifted.
