Negros Power Pledges to Support NONECO Amid Substation Outage

BACOLOD CITY – Roel Castro, President and CEO of the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power), has assured that the company will continue to provide power supply assistance to the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) until the Victorias Substation is fully restored.

Following the failure of a 12.5 MegaVolt Amperes (MVA) transformer at NONECO’s Victorias substation on October 15, approximately 30,000 consumers in the towns of EB Magalona, Manapla, and Victorias City were left without power.

In response, NONECO requested temporary assistance from Negros Power, which immediately supplied 2 MegaWatts (MW) of power to alleviate the blackout.

“We understand the difficulties faced by our fellow industry player and neighbor, NONECO, and their consumers during this challenging time,” Castro said in a press statement.

“We didn’t hesitate to extend our support by providing 2 MW of temporary supply from our Lopez and Panaogao substations.”

The temporary arrangement saw NONECO’s feeders in Barangay San Jose, EB Magalona, connected to Feeder 3 of Negros Power’s Lopez Substation.

Castro emphasized that Negros Power would continue to monitor its own load capacity closely, ensuring that power supply remains stable for its franchise area.

“We are confident that this arrangement will not affect our capacity to serve our own consumers,” Castro added. “Our priority is to ensure a continuous and reliable power supply for all.”

Negros Power’s prompt response and continued commitment to supporting NONECO during this time of crisis has helped mitigate the impact on the affected communities, as work progresses on the restoration of the Victorias Substation.
