Negros Power to Upgrade Transformers in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY – Negros Power will replace old distribution transformers with higher-capacity units in four areas of Bacolod City on Friday, March 14, 2025.

This initiative aims to prevent overloading, which could lead to unexpected and widespread power interruptions, while ensuring a stable voltage supply for consumers, Negros Power said in a press advisory Wednesday.

As part of the upgrade, consumers in affected areas will experience a temporary power outage.

The scheduled power interruptions are as follows:

This project is part of Negros Power’s five-year rehabilitation and modernization plan.

Last month, the company undertook a major initiative to strengthen its power infrastructure, completing a two-day rehabilitation project from Feb. 22 to 23.

The effort focused on critical areas connected to the Burgos Feeder 3 and the 69-kV Bacolod-Silay Subtransmission Line, according to Negros Power.

The project enhanced the company’s power infrastructure, making it more resilient to typhoons and other adverse weather conditions, said Engr. Mervin Dalian, assistant vice president of the Network Development and Operations Group at Negros Power.

He explained that this proactive approach aims to minimize outages and ensure continuous power supply for residential, commercial, and industrial consumers across central Negros.

The rehabilitation included replacing 18 aging poles and installing 235 new pin insulators along the route from Barangay Granada to Barangay Alangilan.

Tree wires were also deployed along the same stretch to further enhance network stability.

Along the 69-kV Bacolod-Silay Subtransmission Line, an additional seven deteriorating poles and three insulators were replaced to bolster the power network’s structural integrity.

The upgrades are a key component of Negros Power’s five-year Rehabilitation and Modernization Program, which focuses on identifying and addressing high-risk areas to ensure continuous and uninterrupted service for consumers.

“We are prioritizing preemptive upgrades to mitigate risks before calamities strike,” Dalian said.

“We are doing this massive rehabilitation in preparation for possible typhoons. We are addressing high-risk areas first so that when a typhoon comes, we won’t have problems. We have successfully replaced old poles and insulators,” he added.
