Negros Power Upgrades Substations in Central Negros

Negros Power linemen conduct preventive maintenance work at the Panaogao Substation in Silay City, upgrading key equipment to enhance power reliability across Central Negros.

Negros Power has completed critical upgrades to its Panaogao and Sum-ag substations, reinforcing the reliability of the Central Negros power grid and advancing its five-year modernization program.

The Panaogao Substation in Silay City underwent a full preventive maintenance operation on Saturday, March 22, from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., affecting 10,221 consumers during the procedure.

The following day, Sunday, March 23, the Sum-ag Substation received similar upgrades from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The enhancements included upgrading protection systems, installing new insulators, replacing disconnect switches and current transformers, correcting electrical hotspots, and deploying tree wires to mitigate vegetation-related disruptions.

“These two days of preventive maintenance have allowed us to make significant improvements and address potential issues,” said Engr. Oscar Duca, area office assistant manager of Negros Power.

“These upgrades are crucial for ensuring a stronger and more reliable power system for our consumers,” he added.

The substation improvements are part of Negros Power’s broader five-year rehabilitation and modernization strategy aimed at replacing aging infrastructure and enhancing service stability across the region.

The utility company said these measures are designed to reduce unplanned outages and prepare the grid for growing demand and environmental challenges such as severe weather and vegetation growth.

“We are committed to powering progress and driving a brighter future for Central Negros,” said Engr. Bailey Del Castillo, chief operations officer of Negros Power.

“Our investments in infrastructure modernization and our commitment to sustainable practices are essential for ensuring a reliable and efficient power supply for future demands,” he said.

The upgrades are part of Negros Power’s pledge to provide a dependable and resilient electricity network for its customers, improving both urban and rural energy distribution across Central Negros.
