BACOLOD CITY – Vehicular accidents in Negros Occidental dropped by 25.4% in 2024, with 906 cases reported compared to 1,216 incidents in 2023.
Data from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) showed a decrease of 310 cases over the two-year period.
Reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property accounted for the highest number of incidents in 2024 with 393 cases, followed by reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury with 366 cases.
Reckless imprudence in damage to property decreased by 29%, or 159 cases, from 552 in 2023. Similarly, reckless imprudence in physical injury dropped by 29%, or 151 cases, from 517 in 2023.
The number of cases involving reckless imprudence resulting in homicide remained unchanged over the past two years, with 147 cases recorded annually.
Among the 31 localities, Kabankalan City had the highest number of vehicular accidents in 2024 with 133 cases, followed by Bago City with 74 and Valladolid town with 62.
The towns of Moises Padilla and Candoni did not record any vehicular accidents last year.
