Traveling from Iloilo City to Iloilo International Airport and to several towns in central and northern Iloilo will be smoother and more convenient when the ongoing construction of two flyovers along Iloilo Diversion Road is completed.
These facilities are in line with the Department’s strategic programs and policies geared towards traffic decongestion; Integrated and seamless transport system; convergence and rural road development; and livable, sustainable, and resilient communities.
These projects aim to promote better connectivity and road safety; and decongest traffic along busy roads in the metro.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-6 Regional Director Lea N. Delfinado said the construction of Ungka and Aganan flyovers is expedited to facilitate faster and uninterruptible traffic flow.
“Iloilo is radically progressing; hence, the construction of these flyovers is very timely. We should not be overtaken by the development, but be at par with it,” RD Delfinado said.
Ungka Flyover is built along junction Sen. Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Avenue (Iloilo Diversion Road) and Pres. Corazon C. Aquino Avenue (Iloilo Circumferential Road-1), which connects Iloilo City and Pavia town.
The ₱680-million flyover involves the construction of 453-lineal meter, 4-lane, 17-span pre-stressed concrete girders (PSCG) on bored pile foundation including approaches.
“We are currently undertaking the concreting of the deck slab (Iloilo City side) and we are expecting to complete the whole project early next year,” Delfinado added.
Aganan Flyover, on the other hand, is constructed at junction Sen. Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Avenue and Felix Gorriceta Avenue in Brgy. Aganan, Pavia town.
The ₱682-million flyover involves construction of 4-lane, 25-span PSCG on bored pile foundation, including access road, drainage, slope protection and approaches.
