Two new flyovers are expected to rise in Iloilo City, according to District Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo City District Engineering Office.
Gustilo said DPWH is currently working on a proposal of constructing the Jibao-an Flyover along Iloilo Circumferential Road crossing Mandurriao-San Miguel Road in Mandurriao district and Buhang Flyover along Iloilo Circumferential Road crossing Iloilo-Capiz Road (New Route) in Jaro district.
Gustilo added that the proposed projects, with the total allocation of P160 million, would involve the construction of two 2-lane, 300-lineal meter flyovers which will provide an alternate connection to shorten travel time and abate traffic congestions along the major thoroughfares in the city, which are “chock-a-bloc” every day, especially during rush hours.
The projects, funded under FY 2019-2010 General Appropriations Act (GAA), are in line with Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build” program that seeks to accelerate infrastructure spending and develop industries in the country that will yield robust growth, create jobs, and improves the life of the Filipino people.
Gustilo further said that a public consultation was undertaken, attended by various stakeholders, to address the communities and the owners of the existing overhead and underground utilities that may be affected by the construction of proposed flyover projects.
“These structures will serve as iconic transportation structure for the Ilonggos to emulate and traffic woes will finally be lessened when the construction of these flyovers commence,” Gustilo said.
“Once completed, this will serve as a milestone for the DPWH and its commitment to provide quality, safer and environment-friendly public infrastructure facilities that will improve the life of every Filipino,” he added. (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
