BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez appointed a new officer-in-charge (OIC) for the Office of the Building Official (OBO) to fast-track the shift to digital transactions.
In a memorandum dated Nov. 15, Benitez designated Engr. Amy Tentia as the new OIC, replacing Engr. Isidro Sun.
During a media interview on Tuesday, Benitez said the decision followed his observation of stalled efforts to implement online transactions in the office.
“Maybe it’s about time to put somebody else,” Benitez remarked.
He instructed Tentia to establish contactless transactions to address issues linked to the department.
Benitez gave Tentia one week to assess the office’s situation and submit a proposal.
Sun will remain with the office during the transition period, Benitez said.
The mayor noted that other offices at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) also lag in adopting digital systems.
Benitez said departments that fail to expedite the transition to online processes will face consequences.
“If they don’t know how to use or learn modern technology, then maybe they are in the wrong position,” Benitez stated.
He emphasized that embracing technology is essential to achieving efficiency, transparency, and innovation in governance.
“How do we move to becoming a super city if we do not use innovations like modern technology?” he asked.
Benitez stressed the importance of understanding and leveraging technology to enhance public service delivery.
