BACOLOD City – A newborn baby boy was found dead in a creek at Sitio Mataas, Barangay Sag-ang, La Castellana, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.

Police Major Nelson Amsiwen Jr., town police chief, said that some children who were harvesting vegetables in the area discovered the lifeless infant.

Amsiwen said the baby was naked and his umbilical cord was still attached to him.

“Hindi lang natin masabi kung doon ba nanganak (iyong nanay) or tinapon na lang iyong bangkay doon,” he said.

Amsiwen said the children reported the incident to barangay officials, who then called for police assistance.

The baby was taken to the hospital and was referred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for his burial, the police chief added.

He believed that the baby had been left there for hours before the discovery of the body.

Amsiwen said they will conduct further investigation.
