ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The sudden death of a newly promoted jail officer was a big loss to the management and staff of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Roxas City Jail Male Dormitory.
Jail Officer 2 July Posadas was killed in a road accident two days after he and six other jail officers were promoted.
Jail Senior Inspector Dever Fantilaga said Posadas was an asset to the BJMP.
“Posadas was a good and dedicated jail officer whom we considered a future leader of the BJMP,” Fantilaga added.
Police reported that Posadas was on his way to Roxas City on board his motorcycle when he figured in an accident at Brgy. Cabugao on March 26, 2022
Investigators believe that the motorcycle slipped on a curved portion of the road and Posadas later slammed on a water meter of the Metro Roxas Water District, based on the hematoma on the lower portion of his abdomen.
“We are waiting the death certificate of the victim to ascertain the cause of his death,” Fantilaga said.
Posadas was one of the six newly promoted personnel of Roxas City Jail last March 23.
As a thanksgiving, the six personnel prepared lunch for their colleagues on March 25.
Reports indicated that Senior Jail Officer 3 Rafael Ibañez, who happened to be on his way home, spotted Posadas sitting on the road with bruises in different parts of his body.
lbanez offered to take him to the hospital but Posadas refused and instead he asked to bring him back to their office.
Posadas later complained that he was having a hard time urinating.
Fantilaga then ordered his staff to bring Posadas to the hospital in Roxas City, but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival around 12:46am of March 26.
The body of the victim was taken to a funeral home in Estancia, Iloilo where his wife is working.
Posadas was a resident of Sara, Iloilo and had been with the BJMP for 12 years. He was assigned to Roxas City for about 3 years.
