It was a short-lived honeymoon for a newly-wed couple after the husband was arrested for a rape case filed nine years ago.
Members of Sibunag Police Station and Leon Police Station collared Delmark Gonzaga around 12:30 p.m. of Nov 30, 2020 at F. Cabarles Street, Leon, Iloilo.
Gonzaga was arrested after he got married a week ago.
The 28-year-old suspect, a resident of Barangay Barosong, Tigbauan, Iloilo, was nabbed by virtue of arrest warrant in Criminal Case No. 11-1688 and Order of Arrest No. 11-07-03 dated May 23, 2018.
Judge Rosario Abigail Dris-Villanueva of the Regional Trial Court in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras issued the arrest order.
Gonzaga was charged for two counts of rape in relation to Article 266-B, Para 6 (I) of the Revised Penal Code as amended by Republic Act 8353 (The Anti-Rape Law of 1997).
No bail was set for his temporary liberty.
Gonzaga, who was a teenager when the incident happened, was accused of raping a minor in 2011 in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
Lieutenant Cal Cambel, Sibunag police chief, said a police informant asked if Gonzaga has a pending arrest warrant.
Cambel said they coordinated with the Nueva Valencia Police Station and learned about Gonzaga’s rape charge.
Meanwhile, Gonzaga’s wife reportedly claimed she didn’t know that her husband was facing a criminal case until his arrest.
