
SAN LORENZO, Guimaras – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) provided updates on the ongoing construction of the Cabano Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in Barangay Aguilar, San Lorenzo.
During a meeting with local officials on July 11, 2024, NIA officials discussed causes of delays, including lack of manpower and unfavorable weather conditions.
The meeting, held at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Office in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras, aimed to enhance coordination to expedite the dam’s construction.
The Cabano dam is designed to supply water to 861 hectares of farmland across Suclaran, San Enrique, Cabano, M. Chavez, and Cabungahan, benefiting 1,304 farmers.
The project contractor has committed to completing the construction by August 2025.
A monitoring team, which has been familiarizing themselves with the area since 2018, holds quarterly meetings to oversee the acquisition of the right of way.
Present at the meeting were Executive Assistant III Lino Galea, representing Governor JC Rahman A. Nava, MD; San Lorenzo Vice Mayor Constantino Cordero; barangay officials; Camasanag President Marvin Villanueva; and CBIDA President Elpideo Yanson.
