The Johnriel Casimero-Nonito Donaire bantamweight dream bout might take a long time to materialize.
Another Filipino was injected into the conversation after the World Boxing Council (WBC) released its newest announcement regarding a mandatory fight that should take place.
Before Donaire can take on the World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion Casimero, the WBC has ordered him to fight his kababayan Reymart Gaballo first.
If ever the match materializes, the more experienced Donaire will be the more favored fighter to win the fight.
However, the original plan will push through if Gaballo agrees to step aside for the Donaire-Casimero matchup.
As of now, the Donaire camp, who is eyeing either Caismero or the Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue, hasn’t spoken yet regarding WBC’s decision.
Also added in the mandatory fight schedule by the WBC is the Mark Magsayo-Gary Russell duel for featherweight supremacy.
Magsayo recently earned his title shot after pulling off a possible knockout of the year candidate when he took down the veteran Julio Ceja in the undercard fight of the Manny Pacquiao-Yordenis Ugas fight.
