BACOLOD CITY — The Mt. Cansermon Command (MCC) of the New People’s Army (NPA) South Central Negros Guerrilla Front has claimed responsibility for the killing of a resort employee in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, last Sunday.

In a statement dated April 22, Ka Dionesio Magbuelas, MCC-NPA spokesperson, alleged that Myra Belando, 43, was an intelligence asset for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the area.

The group cited her supposed actions as an informant as the reason for targeting her.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Indiape Jr., the city’s police chief, countered that Belando was not an asset of the police, citing her previous case for illegal possession of a firearm.

Indiape mentioned they had received unverified claims of her being an Army asset, which they have yet to confirm with the military.

Belando was shot in the head and body while en route to the resort on her motorcycle.

According to Indiape, she had been summoned by the barangay on several occasions due to local conflicts.
