NPA rebel killed in twin clashes with cops, Army

BACOLOD City – An alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in clashes with policemen and military troopers in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental yesterday.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Alvimar Flores, head of 2nd Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company (Nocpmfc), said they responded to reports on the alleged presence of unidentified armed men in the area, along with the troops of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB), when they encountered at least five suspected remnants of the dismantled Central Negros (CN) 1 around 5:35 a.m.

It was followed by another encounter around 9:18 a.m., according to Lieutenant Colonel J-jay Javines, head of Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) of the 3rd Infantry Division (ID).

Government forces recovered a KG9 and a .38 caliber revolver.

No further details have been provided by authorities, as of this writing.

Meanwhile, Ka JB Regalado, spokesperson of Leonardo Panaligan Command-NPA Central Negros Guerrilla Front, in a statement, denied the incident, saying that there was no encounter that happened in the said village.
