The body of an alleged New People’s Army (NPA) member was exhumed afternoon of July 9, 2022 in Leon, Iloilo.

Authorities dug up the body of a certain Glezer, a member of Squad 1 Suyak Platoon of the Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay (KR-P)’s Southern Front, in a shallow grave in the hinterland village of Bucari.

Members of the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion located the remains of the alleged rebel after a tip from a former rebel.

Captain Roel Maglalang, Civil Military Officer (CMO) of the 301st Infantry Brigade, said that the rebel died in 2021 from an illness.

“From what we gathered, he suffered from a nervous breakdown. But immediately prior to his death, he allegedly had a high fever,” he said.

Authorities might request that an autopsy be conducted to determine the cause of his death.

Lieutenant Colonel Harold Garcia, 61st IB commander, said they would issue an additional statement once they talk to the rebel’s family.

He added that the Philippine Army just wanted the family to be able to give a decent burial to their kin.
