As the ICTSI Junior PGT Mindanao Series enters its final leg, Cliff Nuñeza and Ally Gaccion are poised to solidify their standing in the competitive golfing circuit.
Both players are set to compete at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club today, aiming to capitalize on their recent successes to secure top positions for the upcoming Match Play Championship.
Nuñeza, who narrowly clinched victory in the boys’ 16-18 division at the Del Monte tournament last week, remains focused on refining his game.
“Focus on the range and improve my putting,” he said, acknowledging the challenges posed by the Pueblo de Oro course, notorious for its winding fairways and deep ravines.
Nuñeza is also wary of strong competitors like John Rey Oro, who has been consistently performing well across various regional tournaments.
Gaccion, fresh from a dominant performance at Del Monte, is equally determined to excel on her home turf.
“Hopefully, I’ll do better since Pueblo is my home course,” she shared, emphasizing her familiarity with the course as her strategic advantage.
The tournament, organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and sponsored by ICTSI, follows a rigorous format where the best two results from the four-leg competition will determine who advances to the national finals.
Competitors who have participated in multiple series will have their top three results counted, ensuring only the top players in each category move forward.
Other notable players in the field include Ralph and Rafella Batican in the 10-12 division, both of whom are seeking their third consecutive victories.
Ralph’s flawless performance at Del Monte, where he finished with an 18-under 126 total, has set a high bar for the competition.
As the series approaches its conclusion, the stakes are higher than ever, with players from across the country eyeing a spot in the prestigious national finals.
The Luzon series will resume on August 20-23 at Luisita in Tarlac, followed by the Malarayat Golf and Country Club leg in Batangas on September 2-5.
The 14-leg circuit will wrap up on September 10-13 at Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Cavite.
