One of the best talents the Philippines Football League (PFL) has ever seen will be bidding goodbye to the country after nine illustrious playing years.
Attacking midfielder/winger OJ Porteria of the United City FC (formerly Ceres-Negros FC) announced that he will be leaving the Philippines for another opportunity in his professional career.
“After nine amazing years playing in the Philippines, it’s time to say goodbye for now. “I’ve experienced and learned many things during my time here and although I was born and raised in the US, I can really say that I grew up in the Philippines,” said Porteria.
The prized booter spent his nine years here in the Philippines with stints in Kaya FC-Iloilo and his current team United City FC and won the 2015 United Football League Cup, four straight PFL crowns, one Copa Paulino Alcantara, and the ASEAN Zonal title of the 2017 AFC Cup.
However, Porteria did not reveal where he would play next but United City FC’s Twitter account said that he is off to Thailand.
“Although I can’t be with the team for the 2021 AFC Champions League, I know they will make the Philippines proud. I’ll be watching and cheering my brothers on every game. As one chapter in my career closes, another one opens and I can’t wait for the new challenges ahead. Thank you for all your love and support. See you all soon! Salamat po,” Porteria added.
